Honey Fact of the Month: July Theme: Disability Pride, Dual Realities, and Collective Holding
Honey Fact:
July is Disability Pride Month — created to celebrate the power, presence, and dignity of disabled people. It’s a declaration that disabled lives are not broken or burdensome — they are worthy, whole, and divine.
And yet, while the country celebrates independence, many of us are still waiting on true freedom — freedom that is accessible, equitable, and rooted in justice.
Why It Matters:
In our home, ALS has shaped everything — our schedules, our systems, our survival.
But it hasn’t taken our joy.
Maceo is disabled and brilliant.
He is still here. Still loving. Still leading.
And our sons are being raised in that truth — that disability is not weakness, it is reality, resilience, and relationship.
Personal Truth:
On July 4th, 2025, my sister-in-love Jocelyn made her way home.
On July 5th, we honored my grandmother’s 95th birthday.
This month taught me that grief and joy can breathe in the same room.
And that the deepest love is what carries us through.
