This Is Not Work — It’s a Calling: Meet Maya

Generational healer. Aspiring MedFT. Rooted in love. Rising with purpose.

Vision Statement:

To create a sacred space rooted in radical love, rest, and restoration for Black families, caregivers, and anyone navigating the stretch between grief and grace. We believe rest is a birthright, joy is resistance, and no one should have to heal alone

The Sweet Between Bio

Maya Carter is the heart behind The Sweet Between — a wife, mama, caregiver, and aspiring MedFT who moves through life with deep intentionality and sacred love. What began as a personal journey through her husband Maceo’s ALS diagnosis became a broader call to support those often unseen: caregivers, Black families, and the simply tired.

The Sweet Between reflects that call — a space rooted in radical rest, legacy, and truth-telling. Maya’s lived experience and spiritual grounding shape everything she offers: compassion, clarity, and a soft place to land.

Maya’s Therapeutic Philosophy

I believe therapy should be a sacred pause — a place to be seen, heard, and held without shame. My approach is grounded in compassion, cultural humility, and systemic awareness. As a caregiver, mother, and student of Marriage and Family Therapy, I carry lived experience into the room with clinical integrity.

I honor the full story — not just the diagnosis, but the dynamics. I believe healing is relational, legacy-informed, and deeply spiritual. I work through a lens of liberation and collaboration, making space for grief, joy, rage, and rest.

My goal is to create spaces where Black families, caregivers, and marginalized communities don’t just survive — they reclaim, redefine, and rest in their wholeness.
